As a BUILD Construction Site Supervisor, you will lead members of the BUILD team and Sub-trades in the construction and renovations of projects primarily in the Hospitality Industry.  The Site Supervisor will be responsible for site supervision, site production, and site management.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • General
    • Work alongside Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and all other members of the BUILD team to ensure projects are carried out in an efficient manner
    • Ensure efficient site management at all times,
  • Pre-Construction
    • Work in conjunction with the Project Manager and the Project Coordinator in reviewing items related to cost, schedule, quality, and contractual issues involving Sub-trades
    • Prepare, in conjunction with the Project Manager and the Project Coordinator, an overall work plan and schedule
    • Attend project meetings
    • Study and understand project specifications to determine appropriate construction methods
    • Review and understand project documents in detail to permit the identification of conflicts and missing information in sufficient time to avoid disruption of the project
    • In conjunction with the Project Manager, review and understand the project budget
    • Understand Sub-trade contracts with specific knowledge of inclusions and exclusions
    • Communicate, interpret, and explain plans to Sub-trades and BUILD team members
    • Meet with Sub-trades in advance of work commencement to review safety, contract documents, materials, work procedures, quality control, schedule, and work area readiness
    • Coordinate the sequence of work with Sub-trades
    • Determine labour requirements
    • Obtain necessary permits and licenses in coordination with Project Managers and Project Coordinators
    • Plan and communicate equipment needs for completion of projects with the Project Manager
    • Plan and communicate material requirements with the Project Manager
    • Ensure all project scope items are accounted for

 

  • Construction
    • Manage and update project schedules
    • In conjunction with the Project Manager review and update the budget as required
    • Communicate change order requests with the Project Manager
    • Communicate site supply and material needs to the Project Manager for procurement
    • Communicate with the Shop Manager to procure additional materials only after Project Manager approval
    • Interpret and explain plans to BUILD team members on site
    • Obtain necessary permits and licenses in coordination with BUILD Project Managers and Project Coordinators
    • Schedule all city/municipality, third party, and consultant inspections
    • Ensure all site inspections are completed as per city/municipality requirements
    • Meet with Sub-trades in advance of work commencement to review safety, contract documents, materials, work procedures, quality control, schedule, and work area readiness
    • Attend all project site meetings with Sub-trades
    • Maintain a good working relationship with all Sub-trades and their employees on site
    • Schedule and coordinate Sub-trades to ensure construction is in accordance with contract documents
    • Monitor and adjust the sequence of work with Sub-trades
    • Hold Sub-trades accountable for their scope of work
    • Changes to Sub-trade contracts (extras) to be approved by the Project Manager prior to continuing work
    • Follow-up with Sub-trades to ensure completion to BUILD’s quality standards
    • Attend all owner/consultant meetings and follow up on all action items as requested
    • Create and maintain a good working relationship with the landlord or landlord representative at the project site
    • Create and maintain a good working relationship with all vendors

 

  • Daily Tasks
    • Oversee day to day operations at the project site and ensure work is completed to the quality standards of BUILD
    • Communicate the project status with the Project Manager and Project Coordinator daily
    • Ensure that work is being completed with the most current information
    • Initiate requests for information where necessary
    • Complete daily logs (mandatory), logs can be completed and forwarded via an agreed upon method between the Project Manager and the Site Supervisor
    • Daily logs are to be received in the BUILD office daily
    • Monitor quality of own forces and Sub-trades workmanship daily and take immediate corrective action when non-compliant work is observed
    • Ensure BUILD Staff and Independent Contractors complete the site log for hours worked
    • Manage Sub-trades
    • Monitor and coordinate Sub-trades on site to ensure construction is accordance with contract documents
    • Review site labour and progress of own forces and Sub-trades on a daily basis to compare with plans and schedules; implement and communicate changes where required
    • Review the need for any site supplies or materials required
    • Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at project sites to ensure that proper procedures are being followed
    • Ensure any damage at project sites is repaired and the appropriate Sub-trades are held responsible for the repair and/or replacement of damaged items
    • Maintain site binder
    • Maintain WSIB Certificates, Form 1000’s, and health and safety documents on site (Site Binder)
    • Keep a copy of all sub-contracts on site (Site Binder)

 

  • Post Construction
    • Ensure all scope items are completed to BUILD quality standards
    • Complete all deficiencies in a timely manner as directed by the Project Manager and the client
    • Assist the Project Manager and Project Coordinator with project close out
    • Ensure all equipment, debris, BUILD tools, and any other construction supplies and materials are removed from site and returned or disposed of
    • Leave the project site in a clean, safe, and usable condition

 

  • Safety
    • Ensure safety rules and guidelines are followed in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Labour and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • Ensure BUILD’s safety policies and procedures are adhered to
    • Lead by example in establishing safety as the primary value of the project site
    • Establish daily hazard analysis prior to work commencement and promote safe work practices’
    • Conduct weekly tool box meetings and prepare relevant and timely topics for discussion
    • Promote harmony among the workforce and take disciplinary action as required
    • Monitor site activities to ensure that safe work practices are being followed
    • Review and resolve safety issues on a daily basis
    • Represent BUILD on site when meeting with safety authorities

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Strategic, analytical and practical thinker
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects at one time
  • Thorough understanding of construction methodologies and drawings
  • Familiar with the Ontario Building Code and Ministry of Labour requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Outlook etc.
  • Experience using project management software (considered an asset)
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License
